not so good
I think some of the officers (especially those NSFs) in the army are just incompetent breed of people. It's an irony that they're soldiers who have undergone 10 months of disciplined and regimental life but yet the way they function before and after commissioning is totally off the track. However much i wish to tell them off, my meagre position in the army stood in my way. They like to pin point lower ranking personnels to do things they don't wish to do or doesn't help them to 'score points' with the higher ranks. From my observation in the army, the higher you ascend the military ladder, the more you tend to retain your high up image and sense of authority. You'll start to miss out on the smaller details which you deem unfit or are a waste of your 'precious' time. During the meeting with DIV COMD (General) on monday, my CO (Col)'s agenda was on the multimedia part which happened to be the 2nd issue on that day. At first, he (CO) was to present his multimedia concept right after the ramp issue presentation by a LT COL. In the midst of the meeting, the multimedia presentation was shifted to the last place abruptly as they say it wasn't important. IMO, how can the multimedia part not play an important role in NDP ? Without our tickets, carpark labels and so on, how can the NDP function properly. It'll be chaotic with no order, everyone will be lost, cursing and swearing. Ok, the real catch isn't this part. It came while my CO was finally given a chance to talk. After the first slide of the powerpoint presentation, the DIV COMD was showing impatience, he was hurrying CO to proceed quickly and he paid little attention. He kept on saying :" OK, what's next" while fidgeting on his seat. At the middle of the presentation, DIV COMD diverted his attention and called upon a MAJOR to present a banner work. CO's presentation ended just like that and the DIV COMD walked off after making a few remarks and end-of-meeting statements. As expected, nobody dared to talked back and everyone 'act blur'. I could see that CO was rather embarassed infront of us (the lower ranking ppl).
Today was supposed to be an admin day, as usual after the battalion run, i washed up, changed into admin attire and went to the office. My officer asked for me and i went up to him. He asked me to make a trip to DIV G3 to gather information on the sponsors for NDP from a MAJ. As usual, i can't deny orders and so i unwillingly changed back into uniform and made my way there. I think he was just lazy to change into uniform and go there personally. I was made a laughing stock when i asked the MAJ politely regarding the stuffs i was supposed to get. ME: " Sir, .... can i have a list of those sponsoring the NDP tickets?" MAJ with a laugh :" ..I don't understand your english, can you talk in proper english?" At this moment, i thought my english was so bad that nobody understands. I tried and asked him the same question again. I got the same reply. After being mocked several times, he finally said: " The whole of Singapore is sponsoring the tickets." I was quite shocked to hear that. MAJ:" Can you please think what you want to ask before approaching me? I can talk to recruits or private, no problem on that but they must know what they want or it'll be wasting time." What's wrong with me asking that question ? My officer even wrote down what to ask for in a piece of paper and handed it to me. I just asked according to the guidelines. What's wrong? Luckily, a kind hearted lieutenant who was beside me heard what had happened and explained to me what had gone wrong and said that the MAJ treats him this way during his first time too. It was actually my officer who didn't do his homework properly, he provided me with incorrect information and just sent me to my death. There was actually NO sponsors for the NDP tickets. In order to get sponsors' logo for the NDP tickets, they used the 'mileage' system - whereby sponsors for any services or products (drinks, biscuits..etc..) will have their contributions ($) totalled up and ranked accordingly. Only those sponsors who met certain citeria will have their logos printed on the NDP tickets. Firstly, i think my officer was lazy to change into uniform and secondly, he wasn't sure of the details. Ya, and he just sent me to death. Well-done :)
Fucked-up life, working under a superior is not fun. It sucks. What to do? Suck-thumb and live on with it. I just want to ORD soon. Doing COS tomorrow, have to wake up early and travel alone to camp. ARghh, its so far away from home.
